What to Bring and What to Leave Behind
Fishing on Lake Superior offers a dynamic experience, with conditions that can change rapidly throughout the season. For locals, we refer to two distinct seasons: "up on the hill" and "down the hill." While it may be sunny and 80°F on July 30th "up on the hill," the weather "down the hill" could be 65°F with 20 mph gusts. Given these variations, we recommend preparing for all types of weather to ensure your fishing trip is both enjoyable and safe. The following list has been provided to assist you in preparing for a memorable outing under the safest possible conditions.
What to Bring
- A Valid Minnesota Fishing License With a Trout Stamp
- A cooler for transporting fish (please leave inside your vehicle for later)
- Refreshments and snacks
- Sunscreen (Lotion Only)
- Appropriate Clothing: Rain jacket, sweatshirt, soft-soled non-marking shoes (please avoid open-toed shoes as hooks can be sharp)
- Motion sickness medication, if needed (follow all medication guidelines prior to the charter)
- Any personal items you consider lucky or important
- A positive attitude and respect for our boat and equipment - we take great pride in the Chamorrita
What To Leave At the Dock
- The Chamorrita is a fishing charter, not a party boat. Our primary focus is catching fish and ensuring your safety.
- While we allow a limited amount of alcohol in moderation, excessive drinking or becoming intoxicated is not tolerated. Anglers who are intoxicated or hungover will be left at the dock. Charter fees will not be refunded for any violations.
- For safety reasons, no smoking is allowed aboard due to the presence of inboard motors.
- Illegal drugs are strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated.
- Do NOT bring any Bananas with you (These are considered bad luck on a fishing vessel)

What We Will Provide
Your safety is our top priority. The Chamorrita is fully outfitted with United States Coast Guard-approved equipment, including personal flotation devices (PFDs) for both adults and children, marine radios, radar, GPS, and first aid kits. Additionally, both the captain and deckhand are CPR and First Aid certified, with bi-annual training to ensure readiness in medical emergencies.
An experienced first mate will be aboard to assist all anglers, helping to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. (Tipping is encouraged for the first mate’s hard work and dedication to making your trip memorable, as this is their primary means of support.)
- We provide all the fishing equipment, including bait, rods and tackle for your charter trip. Bottled water will be available on board if needed.
- Fish cleaning services will be provided, and your fresh catch will be stored on ice throughout the charter.
- Expect laughter, shared knowledge, lasting memories, and, with any luck, fresh fish for your table.
